Equipment

Shoes:
Asics Trabuco, Great mid price shoe, good grip and comfort, but have had a few issues loosing the shoe in thick clay mud, and frequently get stones entering the shoe.

Gloves:
Oneal 3 mm neoprene surfing gloves, these are not water proof but keep your hands lovely and warm even when swimming or crawling in mud. Because they are not waterproof they do not hold water and dry quickly. They have incredible grip, even when wet.

Shorts:
I always wear cheap, decathlon thigh length Lycra swimming shorts as a base layer, and if it is a bit chilly or there will be a lot of crawling i'll wear cheap mountain bike shorts over the top. Avoid mountain bike shorts that have pockets as they tend to fill up with mud and gunk.

Shirts:
To be honest any tech t-shirt or running vest will do, I have found the cheaper the better as they have a looser weave which help drain water quickly and avoids excessive nipple damage. on a cold day a long sleeve running top is great or even a surfing 'rashie'.

Hats:
On the winter races a hat is such a comfort, I would choose woolly hat with added Lycra to keep it snug.

Socks:
Running socks are great as they are light, tight and don't hold water.
